East LaHave Remodel

Tilia was brought in to assist with the East LaHave Remodel mid-project. The extensive project involved utilizing, and preserving the features of a century home, along with adding a basement and substantial addition. With design help from Muskoka Design House, the end results seamlessly marries new and old.

Tilia’s scope extended beyond typical construction tasks to include careful structural assessment and sensitive restoration. The substantial addition was designed to respond to the scale and rhythm of the original house while providing contemporary open-plan living and natural light. Energy performance was upgraded discreetly that preserve the building envelope while bringing the home up to contemporary comfort standards.

Project management priorities included phased scheduling to accommodate owner needs, meticulous site protection for salvaged materials (like the beautiful tin ceiling), and routine site reviews with the design team to resolve fit-and-finish decisions. The result is a coherent, elegant residence that celebrates the history of the East LaHave house while delivering the functionality, efficiency, and refined detailing expected in a Tilia home.
